    The building opened in 1948 as the Saxony, the first of the great postwar hotels built on Miami Beach, and its basement held a bar that was part of that golden age long before decades of closure. Alan Faena's restoration of the property brought the room back with the same maximalism he applied everywhere else on the block: opulent, dimly lit, unmistakably theatrical, and built to be experienced by descent rather than entered at street level.The design brief was closer to a 1920s fever dream…
